Tucked away on Flinders Parade in seaside Sandgate, is Baaia café. Street traffic is drawn in by chic brick tiling, comfy furniture and an inviting specials blackboard, before being charmed by custom metal-art light fixtures and shining café paraphernalia. Arrivals park themselves in the alfresco dining area to lazily gaze over at the calm waters of Moreton Bay, while a medley of Mod Oz inventions are carried from a busy kitchen, where the likes of house-cured salmon, free range eggs and ham from the bone come to the fore in a breakfast menu all about fresh produce. Later on, zucchini fritters with tomato and olive compote, grilled sardines, feta and mint are a tempting option, so too are the braised lamb filo’s with roast pumpkin and mint yoghurt, perhaps followed by a glass of BYO vino.
